An American riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma

How to make historic sense of the American healthcare system

Churchill described Russia as "a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma.” He might have described America in the same way - although it is even more mysterious because it seems, on first appearance, to be so open, so transparent, so easy to read. But if there’s a way to get to the heart of the riddle of contemporary America, it’s through the country’s most mysterious enigma - it’s byzantine, labyrinthine healthcare system. One man who has spent a lifetime navigating this riddle - as a physician, administrator and writer - is Robert Pearl. So it’s worth listening to Pearl - who appeared on KEEN ON yesterday - make sense of American healthcare. It is, i’m afraid, a bracing reality.
