I disagree with their view of AI here, it's not nuanced. AI has very limited reasoning ability so far, and even less creative ability. The poetry and the music it produces are garbage, and in reasoning, it's mainly hallucinating things which we sometimes find convincing -- it's a hallucination machine more than anything else, and we like the hallucinations when the thing is properly trained.
AI certainly should not be trusted with decisions if not supervised by humans, yet that is exactly what people want to do with it.
For all we know, it might sort of stop at that for decades now, with no further progress; this has happened before in the field of AI. In any case, to speak as they do, with such faith, as if AI were better than humans at anything, is just a sign of their having drunk the kool aid.
