thanks, Catherine. Yeah, I actually read that Lemann piece. I thought it was really good. I'd love to get him on the show. I'll send him your comment in a pitch. Thanks again for listening to the show. Really appreciate it
okay. So why didn't she get the votes? I think it's because she never had a good story of why she wanted to be President - except that she wasn't Trump (which was Biden's argument)
"Not by smiling inanely and saying nothing.." Mr. Keen, you made it obvious with asides like this that you don't respect the Vice-President. Well, Kamala Harris lost the election to the greatest Con Man of all time. Trump successfully demagogued the working class of all ethnicities while deftly making sure that he fanned the flames of resentment of a threatening "other" for each. Unfortunately, VP Harris didn't speak up specifically enough about Biden's programs because both mainstream media and social media assisted Trump by constantly cautioning her campaign and reminding all of us that everyone hated anything and everything Biden did. In the 1980's I learned from my father who had worked for General Motors how American deindustrialization was going to destroy the middle class and lead to "the greatest social unrest this country has ever seen." I recommend you have Nicholas Lemann who wrote a recent New Yorker article entitled "The Big Deal" as a guest. Also this is worth reading. https://www.bluegreenalliance.org/resources/then-and-now-u-s-manufacturing-under-the-trump-and-biden-harris-administrations/
It was the failed Democratic turn-out, not a better Trump turn-out.
Back in 2020, Biden got 81 million votes, 14 million more votes than Harris did this time. If she'd gotten even a small fraction of that 14 million, she could have won. That’s a drop of 18% of the Dem votes from last time.
Trump actually got fewer votes than he did last time.
So more people did not vote for Trump. It was the failed Democratic turn-out.
